On a Jackson Hole sleigh ride you will be pulled by horses through the National Elk Refuge. This is an amazing opportunity to see herds of upwards of 1,000 elk. See how these beautiful creatures live in a natural habitat. You should also take the time to appreciate the spectacular snow covered landscape of Jackson Hole. The area is gorgeous and the fresh powder on the ground and trees can really inspire the holiday spirit.
Sleigh Rides in the National Elk Refuge begin daily at 10:00 am and continue through 4:00 pm. The 2012/2013 season will begin on December 17 and will have sleigh rides daily including weekends and holidays except Christmas Day. Tickets cost $18 for adults, $14 for children 5-12, and children under 5 are free. These tickets can be purchased at the Visitors Center near town square in Jackson Hole. A shuttle will transport you from the visitor center to the National Elk Refuge and bring you back to the Visitor Center after the sleigh ride.
Be sure you dress appropriately for the occasion. Jackson Hole is cold in the winter and you will be outside for over an hour. Wear warm clothing and extra layers. The wind can be bitter and make the air feel colder than it was in downtown Jackson Hole. Make sure you have gloves or mittens and a warm winter hat so you can retain your body heat.
